This site is the personal weblog of Pete Skillman. All opinions posted here are my own.

I post about events in my life, history (especially Civil War history), government and political philosophy, law, and technology issues.

The name, “No Vice & No Virtue” comes from one of my favorite quotations from Barry Goldwater: “Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.” This thought really resonates with me – moderation for its own sake is empty. Some things need to be vigorously pursued.

The banner photo across the top of the site was taken on Little Round Top looking toward the Devil’s Den from behind one of the guns of Hazlett’s Battery D, 5th U.S. Artillery, by my friend John Dolan. We had taken a trip up to Gettysburg on a snowy day and had the battlefield (cold as it was) all to ourselves.

  1. I am the editor of Gettysburg Magazine. I am looking for a photo of Maj. William Goldsborough to illustrate an article we are going to run. I am writing to ask permission to use the photo on your website.

  2. Would you be interested in helping our Scout Troop from Yorktown, VA do the walking tour of Gettysburg? We can offer you accommodations in Yorktown in exchange….
